Writing before more writing:

While I assume you will not read all 16 pages of this piece, I still felt it was important to include it in my portfolio, it is a paper I am very proud of. Minoring in Classical Culture was not something I planned on in college, but I took one course for a general education requirement and fell in love. While most would say that advertising and the study of Roman and Greek antiquity and the classical period do not have much overlap, I would disagree. There are many things I have learned about human nature and what makes people take action, as well as the fact that humans have always been human. People have always been influenced by strong speakers, and misinformation has been a common thread throughout history. This is not to say that there has not been evolution since the periods of Caesar and Augustus, but there are some things that will never change. This paper focuses on how gossip acted as an informal surveillance system that was originally suppressed by upper-class Romans, until they learned it could be used for self-promotion in social and political realms. I hope you enjoy what you read, because creating this paper showed me how much I love connecting pieces of research and making a story.
